"HOLLYWOOD’S ICONS OF 1990: GONE, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN" A POP-UP EXHIBITION BY REENA TOLENTINO

Sat, Aug 6, 20167:00 PM Thu, Aug 11, 201611:00 PM

The Stone Malone Gallery is proud to welcome our own homegrown Artist Reena Tolentino.  She was born and raised in the movie capital of the world-- in our very own backyard that is Hollywood, California.  Reena was first exposed to art when her mom took her to weekend gallery activities at LACMA where she learned about original works of arts from the lesser-known painters leading up to the established Masters.

In her art and travel exposures to Europe, wherein she particularly visited Paris, France; Venice, Italy; Switzerland; The Netherlands, and Germany, she saw a variety of European art styles from various museums—these experiences served as a conduit of influence in what is yet to be Reena’s evolving experimental adventure in her art’s medium from acrylic, to oil to watercolor.

With no formal art school training, painting has always been a therapeutic avenue for her creative abilities. Her creative sense of art style was captivated in the emergence of Pop Art--its composition; style, definition, expression, colors and the freedom of expression that it allows for her.

Reena Tolentino will debut her art series called: “Hollywood’s Icons of 1990:  Gone, But Never Forgotten—they are the Stars who bade us their last but are here to stay though they’ve past.”  The featured Icons are:  Aaliyah, Whitney Houston (This piece made its art appearance in Reena’s recent music video called “Shoparazzi”); Britney Murphy; Tupac Shakur; Kurt Cobain, River Phoenix; Eazy E; Notorious B.I.G., Left Eye Lopez; Selena; Robin Williams; Princess Diana and Michael Jackson.

I am working with images and materials using a layering process with the intention of provoking the viewer to experience uncertain optical motion.
In some instances, using vibrating complimentary colors and serial repetition, I've reinterpreted the 15th century perspective techniques of anamorphismfor a current audience. The paintings require the viewer to play an active role in the re-forming of an image, sometimes from a "off-axis" vantage point or oblique angle.

A POP-UP EXHIBITION BY RICK BOSTON

Wed, Jul 27, 20167:00 PM Thu, Jul 28, 201611:00 PM

After a 35 year career in Music, writing songs for artists like Nile Rodgers, Joe Cocker, Rickie Lee Jones , Alice Cooper...composing and writing for Films like “Roxanne” starring Steve Martin to “Iron Man” starring Robert Downey Jr. and my own bands the Januaries and Low Pop Suicide...which had achieved some “indie radio success." I knew....as in the movies, the Sunset was appearing on the horizon.

With camera and pen in hand I ran away from home , and toured the western united states. I landed in Livingston, Montana....in a cabin , on the Yellowstone river. There I met an artist there who had known the iconic American landscape photographer Ansel Adams. He shared a quote form Ansel that planted the seed for my diving into ART. The photo is merely the notes of a piece music on a page "the Performance is in the Printing"…Of course this didn’t apply in the digital age and Photoshop...which is not keeping with the artistry and spirit Ansel intended.

So just outside Barstow California as I passed an abandoned “Manson Family” style Ranch. I bought a saw and pry bar at home depot then liberated some weathered wood and metal and built my own frames to “perform” the photos of my journey...the result was the piece titled“BUFFALO ON RUST” finger painted on the confiscated metal then attached with Lag Bolts to the Barn Wood. A couple who had worked at the Bronx Zoo then retired to Santa Fe saw it on display in Taos, New Mexico and now hang it in there home.

The evolution of performing on found artifacts lead to “EVE” which sold at the Stone Gallery. Music continues again with the release of EDX “West of Rain” avail at edxmusic.bandcamp.com. Cree-8-ivity the last tribe holding out for the temple of song….

"Relentless Envy" A Solo Show by Ryan McIntosh

Ryan McIntosh is a contemporary artist currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. He is also the founder/master-printer of Miscellaneous Press.

"If art is not directed towards being social, it can become purely self-indulgent. It becomes simply about the joy of creating. Artists that don't create to communicate are creating for their own gratification and to sit back and say "Wow! Look at what I have done! I'm a pretty clever fellow."  -Ryan McIntosh

"WHERE ELSE BUT THE STREETS" GROUP EXHIBITION

Sat, May 28, 20167:00 PM Tue, Jun 7, 201611:00 PM

From 2010 to 2013, Los Angeles (specifically the well-trafficked area of Melrose Avenue between Fairfax and La Brea) was the center of the street art world. Taking their cues from the Arab Spring and Operation Wall Street, famed and infamous artists such as Shepard Fairey, Morley, Mr. Brainwash, and even Banksy took to the streets and painted, postered, and stenciled their witty, politically engaged works on billboards, lampposts, utility boxes, even the sidewalks.

Where Else But The Streets not only captures the vibrant renaissance in Los Angeles street art, but also chronicles the stories from the artists themselves, getting inspired, getting started, getting famous, and becoming outlaws.

Zachary Aronson is a Los Angeles based Artist focused on Pyrography and Stone-Carving. His work explores relationships between man and nature through the use of natural materials and primal tactics.

"In my practice, I use a torch to effectively draw with fire, creating what I refer to as Pyrographs. I look at my artistic practise as a collaboration with nature, altering the materials I present myself with fire, instilling new purpose and identity by transforming wood to ash in the fusion of fire and earth."

"HAPPY NO FEAR" A SOLO SHOW BY THE ART OF CHASE

Fri, Feb 12, 20167:00 PM Sat, Feb 27, 201611:00 PM

The Art of Chase is known for his quirky and humorous paintings that create disruption in our day to day lives. After moving to Los Angeles from Belgium in the 1990s he began his foray into the graffiti world on a large scale, seeing a raw city open to creation, offering a new mode of communication through imagery and quirky text. His determination, fueled by his mantra “where there’s a wall, there’s a way,” has given rise to international opportunities and over 300 murals worldwide. The psychedelic, graphic, and positive aesthetic of his work add to the urban landscape, but also seek to create a dialogue between city inhabitants and within ourselves.

Chase has worked with Ray-Ban, KIK, TOMS Shoes, Flip Skateboards, Altamont, Corona, Vitamin Water, Western Union, Budweiser, Puma, Levi’s, Scion, Acura, Andaz Hotels, Bloomingdale’s and Palmer Snowboards. He has been featured in Italian Vogue, The Berrics, De Morgen, Wood Magazine, and Angeleno Magazine.
