STONE MALONE
Stone Malone is an American artist, musician, and activist. Best described as a surrealist with a comic-book flare, Malone has developed an underground following for incredibly detailed oil paintings that are recreations of his early work in ink-and-color pencil.
He attended Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids and Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California.
While pursuing a career in music in Los Angeles, Stone continued drawing, creating elaborate pen-and-ink works. In 1993, his roommate asked him to create something they could “hang on the wall.” The result was “Masterpiece,” an intricate study of color and shapes that features his now-distinctive use of eyes.
In 2006, Stone-Art was reborn on canvas. Over a period of two years, he recreated 18 of his original color-pencil masters in oil. He stayed “in hiding” as an artist, but despite never publicly displaying his work, he quietly gained a following as the “Cartoon Picasso.”
After pressure from family, friends, and fans, Stone felt that the twentieth anniversary of his first creation, “Masterpiece,” was the time to make his debut.
